Mostly 90% of people out there might have a severe habit of overthinking. Even I do it more often. Currently I am on a critical stage of overthinking..and it’s so depressive n exhaustive that I don’t feel to do anything..not even the thing which I love to. And I end up crying myself to sleep, after which I wake up and the same cycle continues.
As I am an artist I’m kind of on emotional side of human nature..being practical is not my cup of tea. It’s very easy to guide others to be practical in critical situations of life. But i don’t practice myself, Coz i know how difficult it is not to get taken by with the situations in life.
When you overthink, your judgments get cloudy and your stress gets elevated. You spend too much time in the negative. It can become difficult to act. It’s a very rare stage of discipline where you control your thoughts and do not let the outer circumstances effect your mind. And trust me how much I would try I won’t be able to attain that much disciplined mind. My mind is always preoccupied, rather i would say attacked by random monstrous thoughts, also some of which does not hold any significance with my ongoing life circumstances.
But as always when i realize i don’t want to ruin everything just by overthinking over some situation which is just a temporary phase in my life and it’s never meant to be with me for life time, I switch to some basics which had literally helped me from this chaos of overthinking shit. Thinking too much about things can take a serious toll on your well-being. Studies say that overthinking leads to serious emotional distress and to escape that distress, many over thinkers resort to unhealthy coping strategies, such as alcohol or food just like i do!!
So don’t panic on that phase just switch on to these quick steps to get rid of your overthinking process!!
Force yourself to engage in what you love to do:
since i love to illustrate, it rejuvenates my mind body and soul every time i work on it, i wasn’t willing to do it from past couple of days. and every time i thought of grabbing my sketch pad i felt exhausted. But last night i forced my self to illustrate something, be it for 5 mints but i have to, i demanded my self, and i illustrated for 2 hrs straight without even noticing what time it was on the clock. so please try to engage yourself in things you love to do, rather force yourself when you feel that overthinking is been more ferocious day by day. this will surely gonna help you on longer terms and may save you from being dragged into depression.
Watching happy/comedy movies or series :
I know this sounds lame, but some movies or series like “F.R.I.E.N.D.S” are a boon from entertainment world. Binge on this and you will start valuing your life and gradually the process of overthinking will fade.
Read a book :
Yess !! I often say this in my every inspirational article, hope you might have started it till now!. Reading books only comes with benefits, i don’t see any drawback in reading a book. This will only and only add to your knowledge and will transform you into a better person. If you don’t want to read, listen to podcast, use the technology in the right manner.
Pour it out :
your loved ones are the best thing happened to you till date. Discuss your ordeals with them, try to pour yourself to them, they will surely bring up the best solution to your problem, if not at least they will certainly throw some positive vibes towards you. if not your family open up to your friend or colleague with whom you feel more comfortable.
If you don’t want to share with people, then pen it down. spend 10 minutes with a pen and paper, writing down all the things that are worrying you, stressing you, or giving you anxiety. This is as similar as discussing your problem with someone, its just that you won’t get any consoling but a strength to cope overthinking.
Break into positive thoughts :
This again is a task for me where i had to stop my negative thoughts and convert them into positive ones, and when i do this it some how helps but as i said earlier i don’t have control on my thoughts, i tend to get absorbed in the critical cycle of negative thoughts, and they gradually overpower the positive ones. luckily out of no where i get the strength to cope up my overthinking habit before it would turn depressive. This is in my case, but whenever you feel Any time you find yourself doubting or feeling stressed or anxious, stop and bring in the positivity, before it’s too late.
