For all those avid travelers!! What if you can travel the world without spending a single penny for your stay???? Doesn’t it sound good???? It sounds awesome!!! When we encountered this term even we were astonished and we felt the mere urge of sharing our so called discovery with you all!!
We all love travelling and travelling to different places allow us to explore great food, culture, religion and most importantly, it let’s us to re-discover ourselves. Few of the out sized population of the world travel to different countries or different places every single year and discover something new every time. I feel these people are kind of lucky who get to travel so much and luckiest are those to whom their job pays to travel, imagine what could be better than this?
For people like us who are none of these categories and are passionate to travel but without pinching the pockets…Couch-surfing can help you!
WHAT IS COUCH-SURFING?
Couch-surfing is basically a social networking website. It is a service which permits you to connect to the members globally and travel the globe without paying for stay. Host never charges you. The google says, it’s a “gift economy”. The host don’t charge you for staying and hence you save the hotel expenses which not only relieves your pockets, but also allows you to travel all the beautiful destinations without much mullahs. Isn’t this great? Travelling with budget and fulfilling your dreams in budget is the greatest gift one can have. Meet and stay wit the locals and enjoyyyyy!
HOW IT WORKS ?
Couch-surfing has its website( www.couchsurfing.com) and mobile app too. So the first and the foremost thing is to signup as we usually do for other social accounts.
> Create your profile!
Completely fill out your Couch-surfing profile! This will be your home base and is a reflection of you: your lifestyle, your mission and what’s important to you. Having a complete profile is the best way to connect with people – whether it’s going to your city’s weekly event or hosting a guest. Here you can tell people if you’re traveling or would like to host. Make sure to include photos.
> Explore your city!
Next up, explore your city! Getting in touch with experienced Couch-surfers in your area is the best way to get a feel for how Couch-surfing works. Most cities have a weekly event that is usually held at a bar or coffee shop. Just head to your city’s Place Page and look at the Events happening near you. Click “Join,” show up and you’re on your way!
> Surf your dream destination!
If you’re ready to embark on an adventure, search for the city (or cities!) you plan to visit and browse locals with couches available. Look through profiles and references to find people you might want to stay with. When you find a few interesting potential hosts, carefully review their profile and send a Couch request for the dates you’ll be there. We usually recommend sending about five Couch requests. Make sure to personalize your messages and tell your host why you want to meet!
> List your couch!
Once you’ve explored the site and have been to an event or two, consider making your couch, spare room or air mattress available to travelers. Set your couch status under Couch Information. You can set it to “Not Right Now (but I can hang out)” if you want to be available as a city resource for travelers but are unable to host. You can set it to “No” if you’re not available or don’t have any extra space, or “Maybe/Yes” to show up in search results for travelers who are planning a trip to your area.
Couch-surfing sounds cool, but you just don’t have to bump into places coz it’s for free! make sure that you are safe by following the mentioned safety measures especially if you are a solo traveler..
- whenever you are about to stay at a place read all the reviews first, get to the core of it, contact people who had actually stayed over there.
- Message the host continuously asking all the skeptical questions you have in your mind, don’t keep it for later.
- Note down their contact numbers prior to your visit so that you don’t get lost in an unknown city.
- Tell your friends and family where you are gonna stay.
- Connect with your host before visiting their place, so you won’t regret when you actually meet them and they refuse to show up!
True beauty of this initiative is that you not only save some bucks but also connect with different travelers, get some experiences, you get an opportunity to interact with local people, get insights of the place, culture and religion. Also if you are travelling alone, then this will help you get rid of that boredom of staying alone at a hotel.
So go ahead, just surf the website and signup now to travel the world, stay with the locals and live the life you wish for. Happy Couch-surfing!!
